Diets Don't Work

Diets don't work long term. In the past, every time I tried to “diet”, it ended in failure because I felt tired, depleted, cranky…and dissatisfied. It just seemed easier (to me) to make good diet and lifestyle routines a way of life to stay at my optimal weight.

However, if you have more than a few pounds to lose, juicing is a great way to get the daily nutrients you need to maintain your energy while reducing your calorie intake.

14 Day Juice Challenge For Weight Loss

If your goal is to lose weight, I challenge you to substitute a juice meal for a solid meal for the next 14 days. 14 days is long enough to reboot your system from the inside out, rid yourself of toxins and feel the effect of the nutrients in your body.

Once you reach your desired optimal body weight, make sure to include these juicing recipes for losing weight into your daily routine to keep your body lean and your mind sharp. Juicing is such a gift for those who want to stay slim and healthy.

The Key to Juicing For Weight Loss

The key to juicing for weight loss is not to include too many heavy, sweet fruits because they are rich in carbs and can provoke an increase in insulin levels.

If you want to lose weight, add more vegetables and things like ginger and jalapeño for their metabolism-boosting effect to your juicing recipes for weight loss.

What is the Difference Between Juicing and Blending?Juicing recipes for weight loss

Juicing is a process of extracting the juice from vegetables and fruits through a juicing machine and then disposing of the fiber.

Blending is done in a high-speed blender by combining whole vegetables and fruits into a juice smoothie.

The difference is juicing removes the fiber, while blending preserves the fiber. While I both juice and blend, blending is a better choice (unless you have a chronic health problem) because it preserves the wholeness of the food.

The fiber is great for digestion and elimination and also slows sugar absorption so you don't get hungry even when you have busy days.

Benefits of Juicing:

* Juicing extracts almost all the nutrients from whatever you’re juicing and discards the rest. This means you can consume the essence of a couple of pounds of fruits and vegetables in 1 glass of juice.

* It’s easy to consume juice. Even the best blender won’t be able to completely liquefy fruits and vegetables in a way that a juicer can. If you’re not crazy about the taste of fruits or vegetables, but want to enjoy the health benefits of eating them, you will love juicing because you can gulp them down like you would a glass of water.

* You can get a quality juicer for $150-$300. A quality blender, like a Blendtec or a Vitamix, will run about $400-$500.

Benefits of Blending:

* There’s no waste. Juicing discards all the fiber-rich pulp found in fruits and vegetables. Blending keeps it in.

* Blenders are easier to clean. Juicers have lots of parts that need to be cleaned after every use. Blenders just have the container and the lid.

* Blenders are a more versatile kitchen appliance. With a good blender, you can make soup, salsa, sauces, and more.

Personally, I enjoy blending. My Blendtec blender does an amazing job of liquifying everything I put in it, so my detox juice recipes are easy to drink, and packed with fiber. I still juice once in a while, but if I had to pick one, I would pick blending.

Getting Prepared

When choosing your first blender, I always recommend buying the best you can afford (this goes for anything.) A cheaply made product may save you some money short term, but in the long run replacing cheaper products ends up costing more money.

There's a Finnish saying…

Poor people cannot afford cheap things

So start with deciding how much you can afford, do your research or read my review: Best Blender For Smoothies

Ingredients

Always use organic, local (if possible) produce that is in the season. Organic vegetables and fruits have the highest nutritional value, minus the toxic pesticides and agrochemicals.

Buying locally supports your local community and avoids the long distance transportation of your food.

If you have your ingredients prepared, you'll find less resistance to making fresh juice daily. Wash and dry your produce thoroughly and store it in either zip-lock bags or a storage container in the fridge. Keep your blender on the counter so it's convenient and ready to go when you are.

Your juice will have the highest nutritional value if you drink it as soon as possible.

  1. Jackie I was wondering how the price of all those vegetables, seeds. and fruit compare to other foods? I know I am in need of a change but now I only spend $150 a month on groceries. I go once a month. Wouldn’t I need to go to the store every few days to get fresh vegys and fruit? I will bookmark your page.

    • Hi Carroll, Yes, organic vegetables are more expensive, but if you have a local farmer’s market, it’s definitely affordable. And think of it this way, you’ll save on prescription drugs and doctor bills. It’s worth it! 🙂 Thanks for the visit. I hope you give it a whirl.

  2. Hei Jackie,
Great article on juicing and blending for weight loss.
It is probably something I really should look at to keep on top of weight myself.
Your article has made me a bit more interested in heading our and finding a blender and starting to look at the option of adding a blender produced meal to my daily diet.
    Keep up the good work.

    • Hi Tony, Once you start juicing you’ll notice (without a shadow of doubt) you feel so much better. You’ll have more energy, your mind will be clearer and your body will definitely feel lighter.

And spring is the ideal time! The body naturally wants to detox this time of year… so what are you waiting for? 🙂

      Thanks for stopping by! Jackie

  3. I’m relatively new to the world of juicing and am now in the process of playing around and experimenting with different flavours.

Some of the combinations that I find I like I thought would be absolutely disgusting! Who would have thought that beetroot and ginger would be a winner?!

If I’m honest the other downside for me was the preparing of the fruit and vegetables each time I wanted to juice. Initially I was buying the veg from the supermarket ready prepared. It didn’t take long for me to realise that this was way more expensive.

Now I’m going to follow your tip to wash and prepare the ingredients and keep them in those zip lock bags in the fridge.
    Thank you!

    • Hi Boyo! Yes, preparation is key. I learned the hard way too. I shop for my fruits and vegetables at the local farmer’s market on Sunday morning. When I return I clean them all up and I’m ready for the week! Last night I added a few sprigs of mint to apple, cucumber, pineapple & carrot! It was really delicious !! Thanks for stopping by.

  4. Interesting collection of recipes you have there and how they can enhance health. I enjoy exploring new juicing recipes as I love fruits and vegetables. I would certainly try out some the recipes you have here! I particularly like that you listed out what we can expect from the daily doses of the juices. Thanks for the post!

    • I’m so happy you enjoyed it Lily! Thank you for stopping by and commenting. I wish you the very best health always!

  5. To add juicing to a normal healthy diet, would you recommend a meal or two being replaced with a juice or juices in between meals?

    • The key is to add juices to your diet without totally replacing your meals. Breakfast is a great place to start. Try a green juice with some nuts instead of what you normally eat. (A great recipe is 1/2 head of romaine lettuce, 1/2 cucumber, a handful of spinach, and 1/2 green apple. Do this a few times a week and you’ll be more likely to sustain it.

  6. Do you use a juicer or a blender? You mentioned both stating that blending is better to keep the fiber but then you kept saying “juicing” after that. Please clarify.

    • Thank you for getting me to clarify. I both juice and blend depending on the current strength of my digestion. But, yes blending is better if you want the fiber health benefit. (I guess I used ‘juicing’ as slang for both juicing and blending). Sorry for the confusion, but nice to connect with you! 😉

    • Hi Rita,
Yes, the recipes don’t change, but you will have more liquid if you blend as opposed to juicing because juicing extracts much of the fiber out. I hope that helps.

  7. I wanted to say for those who try to save money or only shop once a month, you could always freeze your fresh juice in Mason jars leaving one inch headspace. Also to help with oxidation you can use a brake bleeder to suck out the air in your jars keeping it fresher for a few days.
