Hangover Cures That Work

If you have overdone it and are looking for hangover cures that work, read on. If you didn't take proper precautions before you went out drinking, then you will need to treat the symptoms the morning after.

If you wake up with a pounding head, feeling nauseous, and want to crawl back into bed for the remainder of the day, these healthy hangover cures can help you feel better.

Hangover Cures That Work

1. Water Up!

First, drink some water. Take a glass of water with about 1 teaspoon of lime juice, 1/2 teaspoon of sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda, and a pinch of salt. Do not make it too cold and take it slowly or your stomach will rebel and the water will come right back up.

Electrolytes

To help with the re-hydration you could also take an electrolyte sports drink. Just look for one low in sugar. Or better yet, go for coconut water, watermelon water, or electrolyte-infused water.

One option I've found to work well is called Liquid I.V. It has three times the electrolytes of traditional sports drinks with less than half the sugar and calories. It also has essential minerals and vitamins and more vitamin C than oranges and more potassium than a banana. It will help you replenish vital electrolytes that your body needs to function properly.

Drink as much as you can to begin re-hydrating yourself, alcohol has a drying effect on the human body so you need to rehydrate as soon as possible.

Keep drinking the water and electrolytes throughout your day. Stay hydrated. The more you drink the more you will have to go to the bathroom during the day and this will help flush out the bad stuff and make you feel better sooner.

Also while you are drinking, after every 2 alcoholic drinks, drink a glass of water.

2. Shower or Bathe

Next, a nice warm shower should help, too. Just let the water flow down over you. Have your shower hot enough to create lots of steam. The steam will open your pores and help all the toxins wash away. Letting the water beat on your neck and shoulders will also help with that nasty headache.

If you feel more like sitting in a bath, the ancient Greeks used lemon in their bath to cure a hangover. Add 4 drops of lemon essential oil, 2 drops fennel, 2 drops lavender to a warm bath and agitate the water with your hand. Relax for at least 10 minutes and inhale deeply

3. Yogurt With Cumin

Next, blend 1 tablespoon of plain yogurt with 1 cup of water and a pinch of cumin powder. Drink this 3 or 4 times in the day. It works to prevent dehydration, relieve nausea, and soothe a burning stomach.

4. Eat Lightly

If you can stomach it, have a light breakfast that is high in protein and low in fat.

Eggs and toast with a little butter would be perfect. Bananas and avocados can help replenish your body's potassium levels. Oat may be one of the best hangover foods because it has many of the nutrients that alcohol depletes, like calcium, magnesium, iron, and B-vitamins.

5. Milk Thistle

Milk thistle, also known as holy thistle or mary thistle, has a long history of being used for protection of the liver.

For hundreds of years, Milk Thistle has been recognized as a “liver tonic”. Milk Thistle has protective effects on the liver and greatly improve its function. (More on Benefits of a Liver Cleanse here).

Take Milk Thistle by capsule or make a tea before and after, and vitamin C and thiamine before bed and in the morning.

5. Party Smart

Believe it or not, there is a product out there you can buy over the counter that will help prevent hangovers. It's called Party Smart. Party Smart is a combination of Chicory, Andrographis, and other herbal extracts. It provides antioxidants to support alcohol metabolism in the liver. You take Party Smart with your first drink of the night.

Some of you out there may be skeptical. But, if you have taken aspirin or acetaminophen, or ibuprofen before drinking then you will be happy to know that Party Smart is more effective at preventing a hangover before it starts than any of these regular pain relievers and it is safer, too.

Acetaminophen has been linked to liver failure and aspirin and ibuprofen are both acidic and can cause stomach upset, ulcers, and bleeding in the digestive tract and most of these carry alcohol warnings. Which means you should not use them and drink alcohol in the first place. With Party Smart, all you do is take two pills with your first drink and two more later to prevent a hangover the morning after.

Party Smart hangover pills are designed to stop the headache, nausea, sensitivity to light and noise, dizziness, fatigue, cottonmouth, and any other hangover symptom you can come up with before they even start, and best of all there are no side effects.

Side effects

Since you are trying to prevent side effects from drinking, doesn't it make sense that there should be no side effects from the hangover medication you are using? It does to me, actually, it sounds like a no brainer. Still, even though there are no side effects it is a good idea to speak with your doctor if you are being treated for a medical condition and are on prescription medications. It is always better to be safe than sorry.

The ingredients are all specific to the different hangover symptoms the majority of people suffer from like, throbbing head, noise sensitivity, nausea, dizziness, light sensitivity, dry mouth, and fatigue.

Now, do not think you can drink as much as you want when you take Party Smart. It is intended only for those who drink in moderation and in social situations. It will not prevent intoxication or the embarrassment of decreased inhibitions. That, my friend, is up to you.

Always Drink Responsibly

If you plan your night accordingly and choose a designated driver then you can all have fun and all get home unscathed. Never drink and drive. Party Smart will not help you pass a sobriety test, so drink responsibly. Just do not overdo it. Sometimes you may think you're having so much fun you don't stop drinking when you should. This is when the situation gets out of hand. Drink in moderation.

Party Smart hangover prevention is the way to go when you want to have fun and not be incapacitated in the morning.

6. B-Vitamins

Keep a B-Complex in your pocket when you go out and take the hangover vitamin when you are ready to have your last drink. Just drink it with a full glass of water. Vitamin B-Complex will help restore your energy while you sleep.

Either before you go out, or while you are out, get some food in your stomach. Food slows down the absorption of alcohol by 80%.

You may be wondering why B-Complex vitamin works. Well, it is just the way these vitamins work in your body. The thiamine works to calm your nervous system and helps metabolize any alcohol left in your system.

Riboflavin works to lessen the red eyes of the morning after. Niacin helps break down the food you ate late, pyridoxine works to lessen any cramping from dehydration and cyanocobalamin works to fortify your red blood cells.

It's worth repeating the importance of drinking more water. The B-Complex vitamin will work so much better if you are not dehydrated to begin with. In fact, B-Complex vitamin needs water to work effectively in your system. This is because they are what's called water soluble vitamins so they need water to dissolve in to become effective hangover vitamin.

Each of these tips will help you get rid of your hangover in a timely manner and you should feel better as the day goes on. This brings me to the last, best thing that cures hangover symptoms, time.

Time is the best thing you can give yourself after a night of over-indulgence. Every hour that goes by you will feel better and better. Throw in a nap or just take it easy on the couch and soon you will be back to your old self.
