Inflammation is not entirely bad. Generally, inflammation occurs when your immune system is trying to fight a foreign invasion in your body such as bacteria, viruses, and parasites. These pathogens can easily get into our system and create damage if we don’t have a proper inflammatory response. But when the inflammation becomes chronic, that’s when another problem starts.

It’s believed that chronic inflammation can contribute to the occurrence of diseases like cancer, heart conditions, metabolic disorders, dementia, and other neurodegenerative diseases.
It’s also thought to affect muscles and bones which can attribute to rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, degenerative joint disease, muscular issues, and lower back pain.

3. Fights Free-Radicals

When there is an imbalance of free radicals and antioxidants, your body tends to become sick more easily, and it hastens the aging process.

Free radicals are why unhealthy individuals look like they’re ten years older than their counterparts. Curcumin happens to be a very potent free-radical-fighter. Because it’s a strong antioxidant, it neutralizes free radicals and helps reduce oxidative damage.

4. Treats Gastrointestinal Problems

This is the reason why turmeric is an excellent remedy for treating certain problems like Dyspepsia, Ulcerative Colitis, and Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Turmeric has also been found to relieve gas pains and soothe intestinal spasms.

5. Lowers The Risk Of Heart Disease

The endothelium is the lining of your blood vessels. With age and other factors like oxidative damage, this muscle lining that helps regulate blood pressure tends to go weaker. Aside from fighting inflammation and neutralizing free radicals, endothelial function is also one of the curcumin extract benefits you can get.

6. Lowers The Risk Of Brain Disease

Curcumin affects BDNF or Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor, a growth hormone found in the brain. Many brain diseases are associated with the decreased levels of BDNF. Since curcumin can increase the degree of this hormone, it can delay illnesses that reduce brain function like dementia or Alzheimer’s.

Arthritis patients respond well to turmeric curcumin as it helps relieve the pain and reduce the swellingThough it is considered safe to use this for medicinal purposes, it can interact with other medications. It’s a good precaution to talk to your doctor about the health benefits of turmeric curcumin before using this herb daily.

  1. Great informative post about turmeric! I am using it quite often and knew it was good somehow but did not know all about the benefits it could provide. I should even use it more now that I know all the benefits associated with it. I just need to find some additional recipes to include the turmeric in.

    Thanks for sharing!

    • Hi Marc,

Have you ever tried Golden Milk? Try this at night before you go to bed at night. Here’s how you make it:

Whisk coconut milk, cinnamon, turmeric, ginger, honey, coconut oil, peppercorns, and 1 cup water in a small saucepan; bring to a low boil. Reduce heat and simmer until flavors have melded, about 10 minutes. … Do Ahead. Golden milk can be made 5 days ahead

  2. Wow… Just wow! I’ve never thought that red spice cab has such powerful impact on our health. I’ve always thought fruits and vegetables are the only key to healthy body but it seems I’ve missed out on this potent spice.

I certainly agree there’s no way we can eat that much turmeric weekly and supplement is the best method to get it in our system. But I’ve seen some recipes that uses turmeric as some sort of juice. Do you think turmeric juice is good our these supplements week work better?

    • Hi Isaac! Most definitely! If you can find fresh Turmeric (our local market has it occasionally) definitely juice it! I actually do both.

  3. You can drink Turmeric as a tea also although I am not a great fan of the taste as it doesn’t taste very nice to me. I take Curcumin every day as it helps with my sinus problems.
